The First Designer Purchase

For those of you who’ve been following me on Haute and the City for a bit, you know that I had never purchased any major-label/luxury clothes. (I chronicle this dilemma on a post called “The First Designer Purchase: Part 1” that contains anecdotes from some of NYC’s finest)

WTF? A fashion blogger with no Marc Jacobs? No Louis Vuitton? Not even a bit o’ Burberry?

Alas, it is true! I firmly believe you don’t have to have Ivanka Trump’s bank account to look good, but that’s another topic for another time.

Anyway, the saga continued when I engaged in an eight month-long battle to obtain the Christian Louboutin Louis Studded Sneakers. Finally, after being placed 1st on a second (well, perhaps more like 9th) waiting list, I decided to forgo the very expensive shoes due to financial worry (not financial woe, mind you, just concern).

Umm, I maybe had an accident…

About a week ago, I was having a really wretched day at work. And mean a really wretched day. My interns feared for their lives in a Kelly Cutrone/Anna Wintour/Donald Trump sort of way.

Well, my phone’s screen lit up with an unfamiliar number about mid-way through the day. Like any rational human being, I assume it’s a psycho killer/stalker and let it go to voicemail. A moment later, my phone lights up again with a new voicemail message.

I listen:

“Hey Tyler, this is [redacted] from Christian Louboutin. We just wanted to let you know that your shoes are in, so if you’re still interested give us a call back and you can come pick them up.”

My brain starts racing:

Well, it was nice of them to call, but call them back now and let them know that they can let someone else have them. After all, they’re too expensive. WHAT A TERRIBLE DAY! GET THEM NOW!

And that’s when I marched the two blocks down to the Christian Louboutin boutique and tried on my new shoes best friends. They were perfect. Not only did they come in their own box, but each shoe had its own SHOE BAG. So fancy.

Look, my Topman boots are getting jealous

So, needless to say, they came home with me.

Bank of America kindly sent me an e-mail immediately following my purchase to let me know they had frozen my account.
